NWP (UK) is the National Writing Project co-operative, founded in 2009 by directors, Jeni Smith (research) and Simon Wrigley (outreach). It is a network of teachers' writing groups, run by teachers for teachers. It is a grass-roots, not-for-profit, teacher-owned research project that aims to explore writing and find out further answers to the question, 'What happens when teachers gather together to write and share their writing?'

Open writing widens the scope of attention beyond criteria-based assessment to include the dynamic of the process and an understanding of individual patterning. Open writing motivates writers and supports learning.
