Read it aloud and discuss the power of association. Let writers think of the colours in their own lives and write their own rainbow collection - this could even be done as a themed scavenger hunt in the cafe/ classroom/street/ gallery/ hall/playground.
Then ask people to choose one colour or image as a starting point - and to write freely for 10 minutes. eg my grandfather's brown shoes.../ the blue checked sheet on my bed .../ the battleship grey clouds .../ cyan and magenta shirts .../ 'your red scarf matches your eyes' ...
