pp186-7 about the National Writing Project in the US - and the UK
In the NWP in the US, teachers discover how to teach writing, by writing themselves within a supporting community of other writing teachers. Peer review, support and mentoring are important elements of this, as is teachers' own research and the presentation of their findings.
"The best attempts to re-make such a system in the UK have come, again, from grassroots level. In 2009/10, Simon Wrigley and Jeni Smith, from Buckinghamshire County Council and University of East Anglia respectively, set up a Teachers as Writers group, crossing Primary and Secondary school boundaries, which has been successful in building confidence, extending expertise and discussing pedagogical advances that improve the learning of writing for students."
